Dear Residents please beware of the following incident and the way suspects operate.

26 Mei 2010: Gewapende roof in Riviera

This happened in Glenwood, Pretoria...
A man (with a Nigerian accent) came over and offered his services as a painter to a lady putting petrol into her car and left his card. She said no but accepted his card out of kindness and got in the car. The man then got into a car driven by another gentleman. As the lady left the service station she saw the men following her at the same time. Almost immediately she started to feel dizzy and could not catch her breath. She tried to open the window and realized that the odour was on her hand -- the same hand that she had used to accept the card from the gentleman at the petrol station. She then noticed that the men were immediately behind her and she felt she needed to do something at that moment. She drove into the first driveway and began to hoot repeatedly to ask for help. The men drove away but the lady still felt pretty poorly for several
minutes until she could finally catch her breath. Apparently there was a substance on the card that could have seriously  injured / incapacitated her.
This drug is called 'BURUNDANGA' and it is used by people who wish to incapacitate a victim in order to steal from or take advantage of them.
This drug is four times more dangerous than the date-rape drug and is transferable on simple cards.
So take heed and make sure you don't accept cards at any given time alone or from someone on the streets.
This applies to those making house calls and slipping you a card when they offer their services.

Russel Street - Rietondale: On 2010/04/16 at approximately 16:00 a white Uno with registration number KRG446GP was stolen from the pavement in Russel street Rietondale. The owner parked the car outside to be washed. She was about to get into her car to go to the shop when she heard the phone ringing. She went back inside the house to answer the phone. When she got back the car was gone. It happened within minutes. Her neighbor actually saw the car leave the premises. The culprit was an African male neatly dressed in a suit. The car was locked but since it is an old model it has no other safety features. The patrol officers patrolled the area without success. The Saps was also informed. Just before the incident an old silver VW Fox was seen driving slowly down Russel street. This vehicle might have dropped the thief in Russel street but, according to the complainant, he could have watched the house from the mountain.
Please note that the problem with reporting these suspicious characters in both incidents were the fact that they were dressed in suits and neat in appearance. They were noticed in both cases by various residents that did not think anything of them. The sliver VW Fox has also been noticed in the area- also in Eben Roux. The guards have been informed to be on the lookout.

Tom Jenkins street - Rietondale: On 2010/03/17 at about 13:00 the power tripped and the resident went outside to investigate. She saw that one part of the swinging security gate at the street was open. When she turned around she discovered that the control device of the gate which was fixed to the wall inside the premises was removed from the wall after the electric wires had been cut. The gate was out of order for quite some time and was only repaired yesterday. The perpetrator managed to open the gate by removing the safety pin of the motor, then entered the premises and removed the control panel from the wall. The patrol officers patrolled the area without success. The SAPS was also informed by the control room operator.
